Transform Your Child's Reading with 1:1 Tutoring!

From Tears to

Chapter Books -

I help reluctant

readers soar.

Signs of Reading Struggles

- Reading skills lag behind verbal skills.

- Difficulty "decoding" or sounding out words.

- Difficulty spelling previously "learned" words.

- Unable to retell what they read.

- Homework feels overwhelming.

- Falling further behind, despite extra reading support.

Your Child Can Make Dramatic Gains This Spring!

Struggling readers don't need "more time" - current instruction is NOT working for them. They need explicit, evidence-based reading instruction from a trained Reading Specialist. Working 1:1 with a Reading expert is a game changer for reluctant or struggling readers.

Effective tutoring dramatically improves reading skills and motivation. When reading becomes a rewarding activity, kids want to read more, further accelerating their growth. Effective tutoring leads to a beautiful upward spiral for reading skills!

Helping Readers Flourish Is My Passion

I help K-8 students become CONFIDENT, SKILLFUL LEARNERS.

First, I assess reading and writing skills to design a Personalized Learning Plan. This provides a roadmap for our work. Tutoring sessions follow a "spiraling" scope and sequence that incorporates checks for understanding and regularly reviews strategies. Readers can quickly move into increasingly complex texts with support that will fade as they master independent reading skills.

Multisensory learning makes lessons engaging. Students read, listen, speak, write and move during sessions. I provide modeling and student-friendly explanations, so students can begin to apply new strategies right away.

My goal is to help your child make swift gains to reach their highest potential as a reader.

How It Works

Contact me to schedule a 20 minute Complimentary Consultation.

My goal is to understand your child's challenges and explore how I can support your goals.

Select the monthly plan that works best for you.

**Students who are 1+ years below grade level make significantly faster gains attending two tutoring sessions weekly. I highly recommend starting with 2 weekly sessions to build momentum quickly, then moving to 1 weekly session.

I start by assessing reading skills to develop your child's Learning Plan, then we begin sessions.

I provide:

Weekly games and short activities to practice skills at home.

Weekly progress check-ins with you.

Collaboration with teachers, as requested.

Testimonials

"He's like a different kid - now he wants to write stories."

- Dad of K, Grade 4 Student with ADHD

Writing was a major struggle and he was feeling very overwhelmed by assignments.

Jaime created a very positive connection from the start. This really helped motivate K. It was clear Jaime came prepared to work with him and tailored the lessons to where K was from week to week.

I can't believe how much progress he's made in 3 months. He's like a different kid - now he wants to write stories. I highly recommend Jaime. She is passionate about her students!

"Your help has meant the world to our family."

- Grandmother of A, Grade 5 Student with ADHD, started tutoring 3 years below grade level in reading

Thank you for helping A out of her reading "slump". Now she loves reading after years of struggling in school. In 5 months, she went from Cs to As and Bs.

We tried several other tutors and online programs. Nothing helped her catch up until she started working with you. Your help has meant the world to our family.

"I don't know what we would have done without you."

-Mom of J, Grade 1 student with Dyslexia, ADHD and Developmental Language Delay

Words can't express how lucky we are that we found you! J felt so embarrassed that he couldn't read. Now he reads for fun. He asked for books for his birthday!

You were encouraging and firm which is what he needed. He learned more in 4 months with you than he did in the past 2 years in reading intervention. He is so much happier now.

I don't know what we would have done without your help. Thank you for everything you have done for J.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Are Your Fees?

My fee is $130 for one weekly 60 minute, in-home session.

I discount my rate to $110/session when you book 2 or more sessions per week.

*Most students make MUCH FASTER progress with 2 sessions per week to practice and consolidate new skills. I recommend starting with 2 sessions per week for the first month at least, to establish strong momentum.

Monthly Tutoring Plans

A. 1 weekly tutoring session (in-home or online). $130 x 4 = $540 monthly.

B. 2 weekly tutoring sessions (in-home or online). $110 x 8 = $880 monthly.

C. 3 weekly sessions: 1 in-home session, plus 2 x 30 minute online sessions. $110 x 4 + $55 x 8 = $880 monthly.

I provide highly individualized instruction to optimize each student's growth. To do this, I invest time to evaluate weekly progress and I continuously tailor lessons and resources to your child's needs.

My goal is to lift your child's reading skills to grade level or beyond, as quickly as possible.

Considering Value vs. Hourly Rate

Generalist tutors charge less per hour, but they may not have the training required to accelerate reading for struggling students. With highly effective tutoring with a Reading Specialist, your child could reach their goals within months vs. years.

A highly trained Reading Specialist is fluent with education research or "science of reading" and can pinpoint gaps where a struggling reader needs targeted instruction. This expertise enables readers to make remarkable progress in a short period of time. Reaching grade level is urgent: Every month that a child is below grade level hinders their development across subjects - and impacts self-confidence at school.

Once a student has fallen behind, an effective reading tutor will ensure the student makes the standard year of growth - in addition to accelerating learning by 3x or 4x each month so the child can close their learning gap by summer!

For example:

In February, an at grade-level reader will need to gain 1 month of skills to be on track to reach grade level reading goals.

A struggling reader will need to gain 2-3 months of reading skills that month in order to reach grade level skills by summer break! This acceleration of reading growth requires efficient tutoring!

In contrast to Reading Specialists, generalist tutors may "work with" struggling readers YEARS - and never get them up to grade level! Many generalist tutors have good intentions, but they lack the expertise needed to close the learning gap. A mismatch between a tutor's skills and a student's learning needs reinforces the incorrect belief that reading is too hard and the child will never be successful in school. But it doesn't have to be this way!

I urge you to select a trained reading specialist to support your child's growth in reading! Even though the hourly cost is higher, a reading specialist is a much better value: With a specialist your child could reach their goals within months compared with years of cheaper, but ineffective tutoring. Please see the section below: 10 Questions to Ask A Reading Tutor

How Long Will My Child Need Tutoring?

The amount of time a child needs tutoring to reach grade level depends on:

Their Current Reading Level x A Child's Learning Pace

Helping a struggling reader reach grade level is urgent! Once a child can read at grade level, they can fully benefit from classroom instruction. When a child reads well, they gain the confidence needed to participate in classroom activities. Progress creates an upward spiral for motivation, confidence, and continued growth!

Many of my students make one year of reading gains in 3 months.

Students who are further behind can often make 2 years of growth in 5-6 months of tutoring.

*Students with more complex learning challenges (eg, significant difficulty identifying sounds in spoken words, severe dyslexia, significant language processing difficulties, etc.) will require more time to master skills.

Parents can support growth by praising student's effort and inviting them to practice the short games and activities I provide.

My guiding ethos: KIDS' LEARNING NEEDS ARE MY PRIORITY. If I do not make measurable gains within 4 weeks of tutoring your child, I will discuss alternative support resources.
